Creative Process:
For the Spring/Summer 2014 collection of a contemporary celebrity brand, the design direction focused on translating the artist’s signature style into a range of statement pieces with strong recognition value.
The development process evolved from mood boards, material and color concepts, and sketch exploration through to detailed tech packs, prototype sampling, and garment refinement prior to production. Collaboration with pattern makers and fit technicians ensured design integrity while adapting the artist’s vision into commercially viable pieces.
At the core of the collection was a vintage military jumpsuit from the artist’s personal wardrobe, whose utilitarian features — shoulder epaulettes, cargo pockets, and metal zips — were reinterpreted across the line. These elements informed cargo pants and staple jackets, while also subtly influencing more feminine styles such as silk maxi dresses and relaxed tops.
The collection emphasized contrasts: brushstroke checks and bold floral prints were balanced with architectural cuts; soft silk-viscose trousers and blouses were toughened with hardware details; and a capsule in bright orange double crepe injected a burst of vibrant energy. The result was a collection that merged the artist’s aesthetic with refined product execution, delivering pieces that carried both brand resonance and commercial appeal.
